Myofascial Cupping

Myofascial Cupping Therapy is an ancient negative pressure therapy designed to loosen and lift connective tissue in the body, increase blood flow and encourage lymphatic drainage. The treatment stimulates the body's natural healing process and can help in the treatment of chronic pain, alleviating tension, increasing range of motion and calming the nervous system.

Other benefits of cupping include:

  • Reducing movement dysfunctions

  • Increased mobility

  • Decrease muscular pain

At the start of your first appointment, a detailed case history will be taken. This allows a greater understanding of any current or past symptoms you may have and to make sure you are suitable for treatment. The amount of pressure used in the treatment can be adapted to your choice. After your treatment you will be advised of any areas of the body that need stretching or strengthening and be given any home care advice that may be suitable for you.

Please note cupping can leave red marks on your skin after the treatment due to decompression and suction of the tissue. These areas are not painful bruises but part of the body's natural healing response. The marks clear in minutes to hours after the treatment. Marks may last longer (up to a few days) in problem areas which may be more sensitive and require more healing.

Myofascial cupping is not a suitable therapy to be applied when any of the following are presented:

  • Skin lesions/inflammation of the skin or thin/delicate skin

  • Open/healing wounds

  • Enlarged lymph nodes

  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVTs)

  • Peripheral vascular disease/varicose veins

  • Fractures

  • Cancer

  • Haemophilia

  • Blood thinning medications

  • Pregnancy after week 21
